History

The first mention of the Yamal land of indigenous peoples from time immemorial lived in it - Nenets and Khanty, refer to the XI century.

Built in 1595 by Cossacks Obdorsk city - now the capital of the Autonomous District Salekhard, the only city in the world on the Arctic Circle - was a reliable bastion of power in Western Siberia.
