The first mention of the village of Ivanovo refers to 1561. In 1741, farmer Gregory Butrimov built the first in Ivanovo manufacture, and then there were manufactories of Grachev and Garelin. This ushered the development of light industry in Ivanovo : first linen, and then the printed cotton and cotton. In 1848, there started working a cotton mill.
In 1853, near Ivanovo arises Voznesensky Posad, which was merged with the village Ivanovin 1871, in the town of Ivanovo-Voznesensk- Shuisky district, Vladimir province.

The city is located between two rivers the Volga and Klyazma, on the banks of the River Gone (tributary of the river. Klyazma), 318 km north-east of Moscow.
Ivanovo is he center of the textile industry. Since the mid 20 th century in the industry began to develop engineering, chemical industry, building materials production.
In the northern part of city of Ivanovo there is a station of the Northern Railway, located on the line Moscow - Kineshma.
From Ivanovo to Moscow there are two trains Ivanovo - Moscow.
